workshops
In this workshop we shall be exploring a number of factors influencing performance that are often neglected. For example, it is common practice to unnecessarily increase tension in the neck and shoulder muscles to initiate movement or when under stress. The inappropriate contraction of these muscles impedes the body’s innate mechanisms for movement such as the head-righting and co-ordination reflexes. Using simple exercises participants will be able to experiment with practical methods to prevent this interference to promote freer, lighter actions and reduce risk of injury. For a more detailed explanation of the technique see How it Works The Alexander Technique teaches you how to bring more practical intelligence into what you are already doing; how to eliminate stereotyped responses …... it opens a window onto a little-known area between stimulus and response and gives you the self-knowledge you need in order to change the pattern of your response.
